GM GM. Lootbox here with another one. We've got gems for your eyeballs (don't worry, we don't need your physical eyes for our magic, just you reading).
Today we have
- Making complex on-chain games cheaper to run
- Immutable X solves user onboarding in web3 games
- The Sneakies
Keeping Gas Fees Low In Complex On-Chain Games
One of the big problems when building on-chain games is doing computationally complex tasks without having to sell your kidney.
This was the problem the team at Playmint ran into while building their on-chain MMO based on Loot called The Crypt.
Looks like they solved the problem and were gracious enough to share.
At Playmint we created technology to allow vastly more computationally complex on-chain games without increasing gas costs, by using SNARKs and zk-proofs.
It's a clever, important piece of technology we call CLIENT SIDE PROOFS and it's story should be told...

Here's everything we know about what they did
- They had a technological challenge building joint raids into their MMO. What's an MMO without raiding together with frens?
- Having many players with different attributes join forces to fight enemies was just not EVM-friendly.
- Their lead dev figured out a solution to execute computationally complex tasks in on-chain games without increasing gas costs. They are calling it CLIENT SIDE PROOFS.
- The tech is using SNARKs and zk-proofs to execute the combat logic so that processing of the current state can be performed off-chain and verification of the current health of dungeons and seekers can be performed on-chain.
- This means a battle that would cost $10 to execute goes down to $0.01. Now that's some saving. Finally get to keep the kidney.
These folks are so cool 😍, they made the solution open-source.
Immutable X Solves User Onboarding
Decentralized identity has been a buzzword in the world of blockchain and cryptocurrency for a while now, and it's not hard to see why.
For those not in the know - Decentralized identity refers to a digital identity that is secured through blockchain technology, giving individuals greater control over their personal data and privacy.
Let's look at the gaming industry.
Imagine a world where a gamer no longer has to remember multiple login credentials for each gaming platform they use. With decentralized identity, they'll have one secure digital identity that can be used across all games.
This is what Immutable X (the Ethereum L2 focused on gaming) has done with their latest announcement.
Here's everything we know about it
- Immutable X announced they have a new tool they call "Passport."
- Passport is a non-custodial wallet, gamer profile and authentication solution that streamlines user onboarding and gives the user a decentralized identity. Think Apple ID and Gamertag sign-in without the passwords.
- It will allow users to take their digital assets and identities across multiple games and platforms, creating a seamless and secure gaming experience.
- Web3 gaming studios can drive adoption across mainstream audiences, maintain enterprise-grade security, and access meaningful player analytics.
- Studios that integrate Passport will have access to active players in the ImmutableX ecosystem. Yum
- Devs would find it easy to integrate since it will be plug-and-play.
Our take
Immutable continues to bring the heat for developers to build a user-friendly experience in their games, and this is another added stone. Another player working on user onboarding with built-in identity is Hyperplay. So it's good to see big players focusing on this much-needed solution.
The Sneakies
- Skybound throws its hat into the ring of Mega Cat Studios with a big investment. The investment amount is yet to be revealed.
- Oh Baby Games races to success with a $6 Million seed round.
- Gam3rs' Awards is coming to Miami, and the big names in web3 gaming are going.
- Sorare gets the big fish of sports, inking a deal with the Premier League for an NFT-based soccer game.
