Games that made the top 3
Wildcards Alliance: Looks like we are not the only ones excited about this one (we snuck in a first look last time). This arena MOBA has got them excited because of its esport like play, unique skills, complexity and a passionate team with big funding.
Shrapnel: This comes with no surprise. The hype for this shooter has been enormous. They love this for the strong community building, UGC tools, the sweet, sweet graphics, famous streamers lined up, content/monetization model and the team.
Heroes of Mavia and Gran Saga Unlimited for a tie:
First Heroes of Mavia. It’s a base builder game on mobile with the potential to be huge. Wolves DAO has their eyes peeled on this for the huge player base/target market, winners reaping rewards from losers and mobile (the holy grail of attention).
Next, Metapixel’s Gran Saga Unlimited, a fantasy MMORPG anime-style. These guys already have 2 hit games (including Gran Saga) in the Asia market topping charts in Korea and Japan. Now they are bringing it to web3. Wolves love it for its traditional gamer appeal, and it’s well-designed and addicting.
Honourable mentions: Legions & Legends by Azra Games, MapleStory Universe, AI Arena, Ascenders, Oh Baby Games, Captain Tsubasa Rivals, Dead Drop by Midnight Society, Big Time, and Boom Land.
Krafton Plans To Launch In Web3 This Year
A few months back, Krafton (PUBG developers) announced it was making forays into web3. Then things got quiet.
For a moment, we thought they pulled a Zuck (launching NFTs on Instagram, then pulling out after 4 months). But they have been buidling in private and recently revealed a tiny announcement about what they are doing.
Here goes… They are working on a new web3 metaverse game platform called Migaloo. Cool, right?
They are being stingy about the details, but…
Here’s what we know
Krafton teamed up with this South Korean AR company called Naver Z (a marriage that began in 2021 with Krafton investing in Nazer).
They're creating a joint venture and investing a whopping $36.8 million into making Migaloo happen (Krafton will have an 85% stake, and Naver Z will get 15%).
The idea for Migaloo is that it'll let you "create-to-earn" using NFTs for in-game stuff, kinda like Roblox, but with NFTs added to the mix.
Naver Z comes in strong, with over $172 million in funding and 49 million monthly active users. And Krafton's PUBG? A massive 289 million people play it each month! Imagine all those users adopting web3 tech 🤩
Oh, and Krafton isn't stopping at Migaloo—they also partnered with Solana Labs to create games on the Solana network.
The Sneakies
Another day, another tapping of a former web2 gaming giant executive into web3. This time, it's Bitkraft tapping Jin Oh (President of Riot Games) and Jonathan Huang (Associate Director at Temasek) for its Asia expansion as it continues to be bullish on Asia.
Popular web3 gaming creator Brycent gets signed by XSET, a fast-growing gaming and lifestyle brand, and will be featured in their brand campaigns and content.
Binance Labs pours funds into Gomble to develop and release its first mobile game, RumbyStars, as it expands its Games-as-a-Service (GaaS) gaming platform.
Gadget-Bot's Peggy Chung and Robert Simons bring their "Kaidro" sci-fi universe to life with a PC RPG game on Immutable, featuring player-versus-player, player-versus-environment, and questing mechanics.
Pink Moon Studios launches free-to-play mode for KMON Genesis, a popular web3 strategy game, lowering barriers to entry for more players.
